Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days – October 10th, 2009 (Part Two): Snow Falls, She Rises

October 10th, 2009: “It doesn’t feel right, but we have no choice,” decided Adell. “Sorry about this. Hmmm, I’ve never pitied an opponent so much before…”
Really? Not even the Prinnies?
“Here we go, guys!” declared Prism Red, leader of the Prism Rangers. “It’s Prism Time!”
Of course, they came with a ton of Geo Panels. But none of them were crippling, and the Prisms were just monster type enemies.
The Prisms promised to return with two more rangers! Wow. They are so doomed. Continue reading Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days – October 10th, 2009 (Part Two): Snow Falls, She Rises

Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days – October 10th, 2009 (Part One): Revengeance

October 10th, 2009: Until now! It was tough. I sacrificed over half of my units, but managed to make my way to the other side of the map to their Enemy Boost X3 Geo Crystal. Then I realized, like an idiot, that Prinnies explode when thrown. I could have been tossing them ALL ALONG.
“Heh, this is bad, dood! We are so screwed! We better hide out at our secret base, dood! It beats whatever Master Etna’s planning for us, dood!”
They all turned tail.
Suddenly, Yukimaru appeared. She told us to leave the colosseum, and that Rozalin had “the same evil pulse I felt 15 years ago!! You…!? Can-can you be the Overlord’s…!? …This is unexpected. I must retreat for now…”
You go do that.

Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days – October 7th, 2009: Your Soul Is Mine

October 7th, 2009: Episode Six, Chapter Three: Third Battle
“Welcome to Round 3, your own personal hell!” announced Axel.
The rival team consisted of female demons, such as succubi.
“Elenor…!?” said Adell, to the leader of the rival team. “What’re you doing here!?”
“Foolish child,” said Elenor. “Did you really think you could run from me?”
“She’s the reason I don’t like girls!!”
“Ohhhhh, you might hurt my feelings. After all, you came to me.”
“Stop trying to mislead everyone! I didn’t have a choice…!”
“You won’t get away from me this time, Adell. As per the terms of our deal, your soul will belong to me.” Continue reading Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days – October 7th, 2009: Your Soul Is Mine

Twitter Debates: 4 Signs You’re Dealing With a Mansplainer

FemHype

There are all sorts of men you’ll meet while playing video games. We all recognize the bullies, creepers, “nice guys,” trolls, and oh so many more. While these types of gamers are not uniquely male, the lion’s share of them are. Now, I’m going to be honest with you: I am someone who does not like chatting with random people when I’m playing games. Whether that’s something innate in my personality or a dislike that I’ve developed from playing games that allowed for player interaction, I’ll never know. Player interaction isn’t what I’d like to talk about today, though. That deserves an article all of its own and more voices than mine to add to the chorus.

Instead, a recent twitter interaction had me thinking about just how deeply ingrained our social training can be. I had retweeted something from Anita Sarkeesian and was contacted afterward by a puppet account going through to…

Fire Emblem Fates: Info on the Soleil Controversy

kantopia

According to Nintendo World Report, Nintendo has decided to change controversial dialogue:

“In the version of the game that ships in the U.S. and Europe, there is no expression which might be considered as gay conversion or drugging that occurs between characters.” a Nintendo representative e-mailed us this morning.

You can read the rest of the summary and news on the above article. This has, of course, rekindled some talk surrounding Fire Emblem Fates’ Soleil. I have been doing translations and such for this game from pre-release all the way to post-release, so I figure I best talk about this too, mostly in an informative way.

What I want to talk about in today’s post is where exactly that all started, what was misinterpreted, etc. It’s odd how this all became an issue in the first place, but it seems it did enough for Nintendo to have to directly…

Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days – October 6th, 2009: Clip Show

October 6th, 2009: Twenty-eight days. Officially a month since I started this VGJ. Time for some reflection on the game so far.
I’m a bit surprised at how much this game is like Soul Nomad. The classes aren’t terribly innovative, either. Perhaps the monsters are the most innovative units.

Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days – October 3rd, 2009: Have You Seen This Overlord?

October 3rd, 2009: Adell wanted to know how to search for Zenon. Hanako teased, “Why not go on TV and ask for help? Be like, ‘Daddy, where are you?!'”
“No,” answered Rozalin. “If I were to do something so crass as that, my father would surely disown me. “My father has always been concerned with my well being. That is why my existence was a closely guarded secret.”
